Subtle Rush is an on-going practice in the organising of frequencies and sources drawn from memory, research, collecting, and the rhythms of mind, heart, body, and spirit. Each visual mixtape is built around a theme, creating dialogue by sequencing and overlapping multiple sources, with a focus on Black Diasporic experiences that reach beyond the physical. One mixtape is released each year, turning the project into an accumulation of time and knowledge combined into one single work. Instead of adopting the Western idea of the “archive,” Subtle Rush focuses on the process as “the reopening and rearranging of records”, grounded in the belief that information and education should be universally accessible, interconnected, and continuously revisited.
